(10% discount when bought with a Leica IIIg from FilmFurbish - refunded after checkout)
A highly desirable and much sought after lens. Extremely rare lens being clean and clear and without fungus or haze. I doubt there are many left of this lens in this condition.
About this lens:
A beautiful lens in super condition, the lens is clean and clear, no scratches or haze, which is exceptionally rare for these lenses, with very little 9but still some) of the usual dust you would expect for a lens of this age that will make no impact on any image. Comes with a metal Leica lens cap and body cap.
Possibly the most desirable lens for the Leica LTM mount cameras producing sharp and characterful images. It renders beautifully and is very sharp, but produces those timeless style images so sought after by LTM lens users. It works perfectly on all Leicas since the 1930's with the appropriate adapter if not for a Barnack Leica.
6 blade lens with 6 elements.
Serial Number: 497184

About the Leica 50mm f2 Summitar
The SUMMAR is LEICA's first super-speed lens. The SUMMAR was so advanced and desired that LEICA was backordered for over a year after they were introduced. When new, it sold for the equivalent of nearly $2,000 in today's dollars.
The LEICA SUMMAR 50mm f/2 is an extremely sharp lens in the center, and softer on the sides compared to LEICA's newest lenses. In most cases, no one will notice any difference since the sides are never in focus anyway most of the time. The SUMMITAR replaced the earlier SUMMAR 50mm f/2, which was the hot, must-have LEICA lens from 1933-1939. This LEICA SUMMAR 50mm f/2 was Leica's highest-performance normal lens from its 1932 introduction until it was replaced by the SUMMITAR in 1939.
The SUMMAR is uncoated. This means that it may have less contrast in the shadows under contrasty light, but it is marginal at best, even uncoated it creates sharp, contrasty and colourful images. The SUMMAR is also the smallest and lightest of all LEICA f/2 lenses. With a small A36 front filter mount, it doesn't block the finder of any LEICA screw mount or M camera.
There are no aperture click stops. LEICA didn't invent them until 1953 with the SUMMICRON
